Color Code System
Each volunteer will be provided an identification card that indicates his or her proficiency level - Blue, Orange, or Purple. We expect volunteers to carry this card while working on-site for security and safety purposes.

Blue
New to YCAS or has limited animal handling experience
Works with the easiest animals
Orange
Shadowed a trainer and worked at least four shifts
Demonstrated animal handling skills and experience
Can address specific behavioral or medical issues
Works with animals that are moderately difficult to handle
Purple
Demonstrated commitment to shelter (six shifts or equivalent)
Able and willing to work with all breeds, sizes and behaviors
Responds appropriately to animal body language and behavior
Works with the most challenging animals
