Shelter Statistics
Our goal is to save every dog and cat that can be saved. In 2021 and 2022, we reported 89% (96% for dogs, 84% for cats) and 88% (93% for dogs, 84% for cats) live release rates out of 2,660 and 3,177 total intakes, respectively.
As an industry standard, a shelter must have a minimum 90% live release rate to be considered “no-kill.” This national benchmark is based on an estimate that no more than 10% of all dogs and cats entering shelters suffer from irreparable medical/behavioral issues that compromise their quality of life and prevent their placement. For some shelters, a true no-kill save rate may be closer to 95%. For others, such as those offering neonatal kitten programs or compassionate end-of-life services for residents in under-resourced communities, the no-kill benchmark may be slightly below 90%.
