Adoptions

Our shelter is open six days a week for adoptions:

  • Walk-ins: Thu & Sat 11:00AM – 3:00PM

  • By Appointment: Mon-Sat 11:00AM – 3:00PM

  • We also bring our dogs to off-site adoption events once or twice a month on weekends.

Volunteers who serve as adoption counselors, animal advocates, and groomers are vital to placing our dogs in their forever homes. Additional opportunities to support adoption include event promos, dog handling, dog transport, administrative support, and outreach.

Once they complete a training session, Orange Paw volunteers can show Blue/Orange-rated dogs; Purple Paw volunteers can show these dogs and Purple-rated dogs for walk-ins, shelter appointments, and off-site adoption events. A strong customer service orientation, ability to recognize and respond to dog body language and behavior, and an established relationship with each of our shelter dogs are key attributes of an effective adoption counselor.

Our current adoption fee is $50 for one dog or $75 for a bonded pair, plus a $19 license fee (Yolo County residents). All dogs are spayed/neutered (except under special circumstances), microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccines and flea/deworming meds.
